Billy Couvson

Bongo Sensational Soul (Ching Chong China)
Bongo, 1977

Excruciatingly rare SF Bay Area private press that's near-impossible to categorize (neatly, at least). Suppose I'd label it psychedelic outsider soul if I were forced into a corner. Vocal performance on this album is one of the most acid-soaked I've encountered. Music is insane too - primitive sound with percussion & layered, overdubbed echo chamber-type effects stuff.

Cool liner quote: "This is the first album ever arranged with the new sounds of today".

Back Cover shows Couvson set up on a street corner with bizarre bongo apparatus so he may have performed locally as a street musician back in the 70's.
