Funny find. Some old timer swiped this sleeve from his kid's collection to house his beloved big band faves. This is a record nerd in-joke deal, Linda Perhacs' Parallelograms is the most highly sought after U.S. major label hippie Goddess folk/psych rarity, commanding large sums of $$$, and I find this copy wonderfully sacrilegious. Would love to meet the original owner, perma-press slacks hiked up past his belly button, pack of Swisher Sweets in his shirt pocket...

Enchanting narration from Mrs. Lucky over Satie, Debussy, etc pieces, all as soothing as they are stimulating. Unique little gem in the children's naptime music genre.

Little gem I found on an Mid West road trip. This is a K-12 private school deal out of Ohio with a few nice, little kid pop covers, a fun plugged-in teen "Black Magic Woman" and two selections with Orff persussion. Here's my favorite of the two "Iroquois Lullaby".

Early/mid 70's Socal alterbative school audio yearbook with fantastic mixture of music, poetry, spoken word readings and comedy skits. I really like this untitled
poetry reading and love the innocent teen folkrock original "Venice" with its amateur hour Zeppelin vocal/guitar break. Several other nice tracks on this one as well. Click here for inner gatefold artwork.

I'll try not to hype this up too much, but it's far and away my favorite Christian kiddie record. The Fremont, Ohio-based Christian Astronauts created their own homespun space travel performance featuring a cast of their own family members, a space explorer dummy named Jerry, and a cardboard robot named Loose Nut who, I guess, was programmed to communicate in a Southern drawl. The production chronicles their adventures in space in search of their Lord Jesus and his heavenly resting place. The introductory "Prepare to Fire" and "Countdown" bits, featuring one of the very few outer space gospel songs I know of, is unlike anything I've heard. Between the no-fi "mouth sound rockets" and Sister Shoup's atonal vocals, this is a trip like no other. MP3 above is a large download, but believe me, it's worth it.

One of two brilliant LPs directed by Canadian music teacher Hans Fenger in the mid 70's. Tapes of these recordings began circulating in 2001 and a critically-acclaimed 2002 reissue The Langley Schools Music Project followed, probably the most successful "outsider" release ever, promoted heavily by the New York Times and public radio.

Most of the songs follow a simple format: children's chorus over acoustic guitar or piano backgrounds (all covers of popular pop and rock tunes of the day). Other songs, centered around music educator Carl Orff's ethereal Orff Percussion, feature more ambitious choral/instrumental arrangements. Three tracks "Desperado", "The Long & Winding Road" and "Calling Occupants" feature student vocal solos and are among the most soul-stirring material from the sessions. At the risk of sounding pretentious, the album shown here exemplifies the "spiritual" side of musical treasure hunting. At least for me. The CD is available pretty much anywhere but original vinyl copies are near impossible - a total of 300 copies were released between the two albums.
