This website was created back in '99 as a place where
I could force my weird record collection on anybody other than
my friends. God love 'em, but they were through being held captive
every time they visited me and I needed to find a new audience.
My original plan was to have an actual physical space
to hang the cover art and treat it as a mini-museum, open one day a
week with some kinda listening booth set-up. Problem was, with Bay Area
rents being what they were, I couldn't even come close to paying for
it. Plan B was to post 'em up here in cyberland and that's what I did.
It's worked out well though, because the (2D) covers ended up translating
pretty nicely. Main problems have been the image size limitations (which
end up more along the lines of a CD), and the lack of available server
space for MP3s.
I have to say, the thought of people hearing a particular
song for the first time through a Macintosh speaker is really unromantic.
That thought in mind, I've limited the sound samples to recordings I
believe are more fitting to the format. No "special" recordings
will ever make it to this site. If you've never heard Paul Ortega's
"Three Worlds", you're gonna have to track down the vinyl
'cuz I won't post it. Also, as time goes on, I hope to be able to post
more full-length, reasonable quality sound samples, because these "excerpts"
I've ended up with can be a drag.
