Into Outer Space

Lucia Pamela

I'm listening to this one right now and what a trip this lady is! This album is adored by fans of eccentric recording artists and has been for years now. I can see why too, because in concept it has a LOT going for it: sincerity, originality, singular vision, out-there concepts (literally), packaging, etc., but for me the sum of it's parts exceeds it's whole, and even with her outrageous vocal performance, it doesn't knock my socks off. That's actually pretty surprising to me 'cuz any crazy old lady with that much personality usually wins me right over.

Anyway, this is an entire album about her personal forays into outer space, backed by a hard boppin' cantina group, and I bet it would've been an incredible thing to see performed live back in the '60s.

There's a legit reissue of this LP on the Arf Arf label. Check it out and decide for yourself.
